Win With Wind Wins
Dear Friends and Supporters,
It is important to us to reach out and keep you informed on the work we are doing—work you have so generously supported.
First, it is with great humility that we announce that Win With Wind has been recognized with the 2020 Clean Energy Advocate Award from the Alliance for Clean Energy New York. Thank you ACENY.
We have also won some important victories for alternative energy in the past few months. South Fork Wind gained vital approvals from the New York State Public Service Commission, the East Hampton Town Board, and the East Hampton Town Trustees. But our job is not yet done. Now we must win approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. And yet we still face well-funded opposition from some Wainscott residents. We hope you will stay with us in this historic challenge to fight Climate Change. Climate Change is real, it is upon us right now, and our coastal community will be deeply affected by it.
Our opponents have deep pockets, but we have you!
Many thanks for your help,
Judith Hope

A Message from Jeremiah Mulligan, Treasurer, Win With Wind:
Despite the pandemic Win With Wind continued its efforts to support South Fork Wind (“SFW”). Meetings were held via Zoom including those with the East Hampton Town Board, East Hampton Town Trustees, and New York State Public Service Commission (“PSC”). We continued to be safe and we sincerely hope that all our members have been safe as well.
Recent highlights:
January was a busy month. Legal briefs in support of SFW were filed with the PSC, and WWW spoke out in Town Board and Trustees Zoom meetings about the Easement Agreement, Lease Agreement, and the Host Community Agreement which were finally approved by the Town and Trustees. Pursuant to those agreements the Town and Trustees will receive about $29.5 million over the next 25 years. WWW, Renewable Energy Long Island, New York League of Conservation Voters, Group for the East End, and Citizens Campaign for the Environment also did an on-line presentation in support of SFW. See video below.
February had the steering Committee of WWW providing oral comments at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (“BOEM”) public hearings and WWW’s attorneys providing written comments on BOEM’s draft Environmental Impact Statement (“EIS”). It is anticipated that BOEM will finalize its EIS this fall and make its final ruling before year end 2021. BOEM’s approval is the final step prior to construction of SFW which should begin in the first quarter of 2022.
March was a banner month. On March 18, the PSC after more than two years of careful review, unanimously approved SFW’s Article VII application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need. This was a lengthy and complicated process with thousands of pages of documents and comments filed and hundreds of hours of numerous public hearings and private settlement discussions held over that period. WWW and its attorneys actively participated in the process filing not only numerous comment letters but also initial and reply briefs recommending approval. An essential ingredient in all of this was WWW’s stellar legal team led by the law firm Arnold & Porter and the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University.
Looking forward, WWW will continue to advocate for SFW and provide to the public accurate information about SFW and renewable wind energy. There are science-deniers and purveyors of misinformation and disinformation active on the South Fork and elsewhere. WWW in conjunction with other nationwide and local environmental groups will continue its efforts.
